Open Air Theatre – Come Rain or Shine

TheatreWith weather like this it’s time we focused our Price Crunching attention on one of those activities associated with the quintessential London Life – open air theatre!

Now in the case of our fair City, one venue will always be synonymous with such an activity – the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park. This is a wonderful Venue for the young, old, and sub-par intellectuals from Middle England. Unfortunately most performances at this wonderful London treasure will inevitably be ever so slightly tarnished by at least one bus-load of the latter.

For example, on my last visit to the theatre to see ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, I had the unfortunate displeasure of Mr sub-par intellectual man from Middle England, who insisted on opening approximately 6 cans of “Stella” during the course of performance, and constantly repeating “I did’n’ get any of that” at every given opportunity.

Fortunately it seems the Open Air Theatre are taking steps to lessen the supposed quips of Mr sub-par intellectual man from Middle England by diversifying their productions away from the traditional Shakespeare, which will hopefully enhance what really is a fantastic venue.

And you know what, so what if you have to tolerate Mr sub-par intellectual man from Middle England from time to time, it is a lovely romantic experience, the food and drink is enjoyable though many still bring their own. The toilets alone are a pleasant experience, with open walls leading on to closed off gardens and a clean yet rustic feel. Not to mention it is still a far nicer experience than that currently offered at many of the West End’s finest theatres.

Now I couldn’t find a royalty-free image of the open air theatre to share, though fortunately Youtube once again provides the answer.

Update from Ollie for any musical fans: Tickets for the current production of Hello Dolly can be snapped up for as little as £10 at lastminute.com for Upper Tier seats, or £25 for top-end seats. With the weather set to improve later this week grab a pair while you can…
